Regimen in Homeopathy

Although homeopaths are not nutritionists, we have nutrition training in line with the philisophy of homeopathy. The Founder of Homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemman talked at length about Regimen – being the diet and lifestyle of a client – as a healthy regimen is necessary for homeopathic treatment to have optimal effect. A poor diet or lifestyle is what is known in homeopathy as an ‘Obstacle to Cure’, standing in the way of you and your optimal path to healing.

DIET:

  • Remove all seed oils from your diet as they are extremely inflammatory. This includes canola oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, grapeseed oil, soybean oil. These oils are found in many packaged products such as store-bought mayonnaise, snack foods, margarine and bottled sauces. Check your labels carefully. Instead use; cold pressed/extra virgin olive oil (preferably a local brand), avocado oil, butter, ghee or lard.
  • Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and lots of colours. If raw vegetables upset your gut substitute them for steamed veg.
  • Use bitter foods such as vinegars, sauerkrauts, rocket, sorrel, dandelion greens and brassicas such as broccoli, cabbage and brussel sprouts (if your gut tolerates them). Bitter foods stimulate your natural digestive juices thereby aiding digestion.
  • Remove sugar, food colouring and any products with additives and preservatives from your diet. Again, these are highly inflammatory, and the additives have many negative effects. For sweet treats have fruit and dark chocolate (another bitter). If you like dried fruit as a treat, please choose an organic variety which is free of sulphites (another preservative).
  • While you are undergoing homeopathic treatment limit very spicy food. Spices are medicinal and can interfere with homeopathic remedies.
  • Limit your alcohol intake and increase your intake of filtered water.
  • Eat a variety of meats and seafood and eggs. Ensure you have protein with every meal.
  • You can eat nuts and seeds but limit them if they react with your gut as sometimes these foods have mould in them as a by-product of their storage.
  • Grains are fine if you tolerate them. Limit commercial bread as it is full of additives. A sourdough bread is a lot better for you, Mount Sourdough is a great brand or even make your own.
  • Dairy products are fine if you tolerate them; ensure you have full fat milk and unsweetened full fat yoghurt. Eat butter (not margarine).
  • Eat organic, spray-free or homegrown food wherever possible.

GENERAL:

  • Limit your screen time.
  • Ensure you get daily sunshine on your skin and in your eyes, it’s the best for you early in the morning.
  • Do things that bring you joy.
  • Don’t do strenuous exercise if your body is not used to it while undergoing homeopathic treatment. Again, this is inflammatory to the body. Be kind to yourself.
  • Get 7 hours sleep minimum and make sure you have good sleep hygiene - keep the light low after dark, don’t take a screen to bed and aim to get up at a similar time as the sun. Bearing in mind that the hours that you sleep before midnight are the important ones.
